Jayne spent her childhood on a Cumbrian dairy farm and now finds her inspiration within the agricultural and countryside environment. The use of bold, flowing line, capturing the essence of the subject is the hallmark of her work. Whether sketching pedigree livestock or native wildlife, simplicity, motion and life are portrayed in her unique and impressionistic style.
St Herbert’s School has had close links with the Calvert Trust for several years and our parents recently sponsored a horse at the Riding Stables, so we wanted to support Go Herdwick.
The children are all involved from Nursery to Year 6. We enjoy getting outdoors at school and believe that we should support the development of opportunities for people with disabilities, so that they can enjoy our world class environment too.
Sharrow Bay is sponsoring a sheep because we’ve always admired the work the Calvert Trust does; this project is such a great fundraising idea, locals and visitors alike will find it so much fun.

I am a textile artist working just outside the Lake District National Park in West Cumbria.
I am lucky to be living within reach of the northern Lake District and the more industrial West Coast, both are great inspiration in my work. Working from my lovely studio (a renovated summer house) in the garden, I use appliqué and free-machine embroidery to create a range of contemporary, functional and decorative textile pieces.
Di McGhee is an artist whose work often involves site specific installations, drawings and text based art. Her work also reflects life as an artist based in Cumbria.
“My inspiration for my Herdwick vision came from recent work I did with this particular breed’s wool; I was fascinated by the strength of the spring in the wool and I would like to create an illustration of the springs combined with some text referring to the heritage of the Herdwick in Cumbria.”
We’re thrilled to be taking part in the Go Herdwick project. We’re keen supporters of the Calvert Trusts work, and this project felt like a natural fit for us with the Dunning family background in farming. It’s an innovative way to encourage exploration of the area for visitors and locals alike, and a great platform to support the creative community and emerging young artists.

St Martin and St Mary Church of England Primary School, Windermere, caters for children aged 3 to 11 years
of age.We jumped at the chance to be involved with the Go Herdwick project because it will be fun to be part of, add to our cultural heritage and raise funds for a fantastic cause. We are looking forward to seeing our herdwick alongside all the other herdwicks on the trail.
Since graduating from the Royal College of Art I have worked professionally within the arts. My studio is in Manchester, where I live and work. My practice is contemporary and wide ranging. My work explores painting, printmaking and experimental film.
